Fully conservative overset mesh to overcome the blunt body metric singularity in finite difference methods

Abstract A fully conservative overset mesh method is proposed and applied to overcome the metric singularity at symmetry line for blunt bodies, e.g., capsules blunted cones, in general curvilinear coordinates. The placed automatically by avoiding collapse of grid lines using a hexahedral structure contrast prismatic body-orientated mesh. In addition, points coincide with those avoid interpolation techniques interchange flow variables between two meshes. This coincidence ensures conservation avoids uncertainties shock as naturally conservative. thin-layer Navier–Stokes equations high Reynolds number flows are solved an AUSM+ or AUSMPW+ flux vector splitting combination adaption capture accurately. For verification purposes method, supersonic 2D-axisymmetric hemisphere cylinder chosen results along wall verified. Furthermore, properties shown on stagnation presented. 3D calculation investigated show applicability presented simulations angle attack.
